If Alberta and Hollywood District are the NE neighborhoods everyone already knows, Cully and Concordia are the ones people find out about from a friend and then get weirdly protective of, like they discovered them personally.

Cully sits further out, a little more residential, a little less polished around the edges, and that's honestly part of the appeal. Lot sizes tend to run bigger than what you'll find closer in, which matters a lot if you've ever tried to fit a garden, a dog, and a trampoline onto a standard Portland city lot and failed. It's less about walkability to a commercial strip and more about having actual space, which is its own kind of luxury depending on what season of life you're in.

Concordia, a bit closer in, blends classic Portland bungalows with a genuinely strong sense of neighborhood identity, helped along by the university that shares its name and a handful of local spots that have been anchoring the area for years. It's calmer than Alberta but not sleepy, more like a neighborhood that knows exactly what it is and isn't trying to convince you of anything.

If you like the idea of more yard than you'll know what to do with and slightly less foot traffic outside your window, you'll love living in Cully. If you like a classic Portland bungalow block with an easy walk to a few good local spots, minus the crowds of Alberta on a Saturday, Concordia's probably your speed.

Prices in both tend to run a bit friendlier than the more headline grabbing NE pockets, which is exactly why we keep telling people not to skip these two just because they don't come up in every list.
